There are many good reasons for training at home. It saves time, it is always open and there is no wait for equipment. It can even be a money saver when balanced out against a year or two of gym membership. However, buying equipment can be expensive. Fortunately it is possible to build a great home gym at very little cost with a little time and work. Here are some ideas for homemade weight training equipment.

Building a Power Rack from Scaffolding

A power rack (or power cage) is probably the most useful piece of equipment for a home gym. It enables anyone to lift safely without spotters. This is key for anyone working out at home. Scaffolding can be had cheaply from any scaffolding merchant. The total cost for parts should be between $50 and $100 and it is easy enough to put together in a few hours. Scaffolding poles will always be strong enough and fit together (and come apart) easily. A detailed plan can be found here.
