Workplace stalking is stalking behaviours which occur in at a person’s place of work. If the stalker is a co-worker, he or she has greater access to the victim, and can more easily monitor the victim. For example, the stalker may attempt to gain access to personal and confidential files about the victim. The stalker may take “souvenirs” from the victim’s desk, and may leave unwanted sexually suggestive gifts.

It is frustrating for the victim when the stalker is a co-worker because the stalker’s presence at the workplace is nothing out of the ordinary, and it may be difficult for the victim to distance himself or herself from the stalker.

Stalking in the workplace whether perpetrated by a co-worker, ex-partner or stranger can become dangerous and life-threatening. Stalkers often intend to target their victims, but often, bystanders and co-workers may also suffer negative outcomes during confrontation such as psychological trauma, assault, injury, or even death.
